Investigate

What Is My Part in the School Community and in the Wider Community?
Grade 10 Unit 1

Investigate
The problem to this unit consists in thinking, designing, and creating a poster. This poster should advertise the upcoming event organized by Ms. Daykin: the school X-Factor. The poster must be of course suitable for the school community which, as a matter of fact, is the event’s audience.
Colours, fonts, pictures, and themes must be aesthetically pleasing as well as eye-catching. I will need to research all of these aspects, in order to make the poster (and, of course, the event) a success. The poster should be big so that everyone can see it, and clear so that the reader can easily understand its purpose.
This problem may relate to me being myself part of the school community and being probably part of the audience. This could help me also because I would know the public’s opinions and tastes. Also, by creating the poster myself I have the opportunity to improve my designing and creating skills using maybe a different program other than my favourite: Microsoft Office PowerPoint.
Other than me, the poster should affect the community which, in this case, is the school community. This means that the public is relatively young (approx. aged 10-18) and that the poster’s design has to be relevant. The problem, therefore, does relate to the school community since it’s them who have to be persuaded to go to the X-Factor.
The AOI (Area Of Interaction) to which this problem relates is Community and Service (C&S). This is because, as I just stated, it strongly relates to the school community and it makes the student take part in the society. Students are encouraged with the poster I must create for the problem to make connections with the rest of the school community.
